Catching Up With John Dickerson, New Host of ‘Face The Nation’
John Dickerson — a regular on our Friday News Roundups since 2006 — is moving to television.
The chief political correspondent for Slate and political director for CBS is taking over “Face The Nation” from veteran newscaster Bob Schieffer, the network announced.
Dickerson has appeared on the show 83 times, but he’s still largely a stranger to broadcast news, The New York Times writes: While he has a long print background, and has never hosted a television program.
Schieffer, who has hosted the show for 24 years, will step down this summer.
Dickerson’s first show will be on June 7.
“I’m thrilled. I have watched Bob my whole professional life not just as a viewer but as a daily reporter who also covered the Hill. I’m honored to carry on his tradition on Face the Nation,” Dickerson told CBS.
Our Friday roundups paid tribute to him April 10:
