Last month, we did a show looking at how journalists are rethinking their role under a Trump presidency. One of our guests was Trump supporter and CNN contributor Scottie Nell Hughes. When Diane asked Hughes about Trump’s false statements, Hughes replied: “…people that say facts are facts, they’re not really facts. Everybody has a way, it’s kind of like looking at ratings or looking at a glass of half-full water. Everybody has a way of interpreting them to be the truth or not true.” The statement provoked a huge response from our listeners – and many in the media wrote follow-up pieces (like this one). James Fallows of The Atlantic was a panelist that day. Diane invited him back into the studio to talk more about what Hughes said and the challenge facing reporters.
