Dava Sobel’s new biography of Galileo reveals little-known aspects of his history, including his relationship with his three illegitimate children. “Galileo’s Daughter” (Walker Books) draws on the letters exchanged between the Renaissance astronomer and his oldest daughter, who lived in a convent under the name Sister Maria Celeste.
