Each year, about 40,000 severely overweight Americans undergo drastic abdominal surgery on a voluntary basis. The procedure, known as "bariatric surgery," reconfigures a patient’s stomach and small intestine so he eats less, and absorbs less of what he does eat. A panel of guests talks about determining who are appropriate candidates for the surgery, and the risks and benefits most patients experience.
