As deputy chairperson of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Alex Boraine served with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and others to examine his country’s painful legacy of apartheid. In his new book, he tells of that experience and looks at how South Africa’s approach might be adopted by other societies struggling with histories of ethnic injustice.
