“Five really loud booms” rang out Friday on the Eastern end of Paris  as police tried to free hostages from a neighborhood grocery store—the second such hostage situation to break out after the attacks on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Eleanor Beardsley called in to our Friday News Roundup from the scene to talk about the dual hostage situations and local reaction to them.

“It’s surreal, Diane … It’s the beautiful city of Paris and you have this horrible hostage strong-arm at the same time,” she said.
