Diane’s farewell message
After 52 years at WAMU, Diane Rehm says goodbye.
On December 25th, 1991 Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as president of the Soviet Union. With the stroke of a pen the totalitarian regime founded by Lenin and enforced by Stalin came to an end. In a new book, award winning journalist and writer Conor O’Clery offers a minute by minute account of this dramatic day. He also details many of the tumultuous events in the years leading up to the end of the Soviet Union, the bitter rivalry between Gorbachev and his successor Boris Yeltsin, and the defiance of once passive Soviet republics. Join us for a discussion on the end of the Soviet Union.
